Have you ever imagined what the baby of a hog and a deer would look like? Would it have the head of a hog and the body of a deer? Or would it have the head of a deer and the body of a hog? To list the advantages of all the different combinations could take a lifetime. Either way, the legend of the hogdeer is notorious; not just here in in Palm Beach County, but also as far north as Okeechobee and Yeehaw Junction.

This is Florida you don't get to see on Dexter, CSI, Bones, Deep Space Nine, or Law and Order.

Contained here are the chronicles of Big Pollo and Hotel Whiskey on their journey to unravel the mystery of the hogdeer.

Old Jupiter - Indiantown Grade Hike (Complete) 04/08/2011

Another hike on the Jupiter to Indiantown Grade, but this time we completed it @ 11km.

Hotel Whiskey's new bag.  She is utilizing the handy side-access zipper.

Some animal homes...

One of our cattails from last time...

We found this bike out there in the middle of nowhere.  It was riddled with buckshot.

Found some hog bones and furry skin.

A SWARM OF BEES!

Old Jupiter - Indiantown Grade Hike 03/04/2011

We went out to the Old Jupiter to Indiantown grade today for a short hike.  The girls had just gotten finished with roller derby practice, so that limited our distance.

We had fun with some cat tails!

...And some fun with a spear (notice in-flight spear circled in white)

Here's a vulture we saw (only wildlife other than a couple snakes)

Cool landscape on the way out...

DuPuis WMA Hike 03/13/2011

Here are the pictures from the second hike of last weekend.  We had a much larger group this time, and the Loop 4 campsite turned out to be a lot of fun.

We tried out some magnesium and kindling...

...and finally got a fire going with a lighter

Yes that is a trash bag with all of our trash.

DuPuis WMA Hike 03/12/2011

Here's some pictures from one of our hikes last weekend at the DuPuis Water Management District.  It was a fun time.  We parked at the Governor's House and walked down to the camp site on Loop 2 to reconnoiter the area for future camping operations.  We did the same for the campsite on Loop 4 the next day; pictures of that come.

After the hike we drove over to Port Mayaca to catch the sunset, then went up to Okeechobee for some dinner at Cowboy's.

the legend continues

She's going to be really mad that I used that picture.

edit:  I WAS RIGHT, SHE WAS MAD!  Here is an older picture of both of us getting ready to hit that old dusty trail:
